Vacuum-hardened and sub-zero-tempered ELMAX flat steel, tempered to 61 HRC

The steel is vacuum-hardened and tempered to a hardness of 61 HRC. The steel is sub-zero hardened! It can be used immediately to produce the blade, thereby shortening the knife’s production time, or they might manage to make a ‘blowtorch’... Using pre-hardened steel also minimises the risk of deformation of the finished blade, thereby eliminating any need for straightening.

Elmax is a stainless steel produced by powder metallurgy by Uddeholm. This technology enhances toughness and strength even at high hardness levels. The steel thus achieves excellent cutting properties, high edge retention, strength and good toughness.

The steel is exceptionally well-suited to boning and filleting knives due to its resistance to breakage, whilst bushcraft and hunting knife users will appreciate the high resistance of the deeply drawn edge to chipping.

This steel is only suitable for owners of belt grinders and cannot be drilled with standard drill bits or machined using standard hand tools! It is very hard! When manufacturing the blade, it is no problem to cut the shape using an angle grinder and to produce a complete knife with a ‘mandrel-mounted’ construction.
